The DVD-LS83 supports multiple disc formats including DVD-R (+/-), DVD-RW (+/-), CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 audio and JPEG photos. It also supports output to a television through a composite video output as well as digital audio output through an optical port that can send Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM audio straight to any home theater device. Though it has less overall battery life than the DVD-LS86, it doesn't forego any of that player's other features.

This player can play PAL discs on a NTSC TV but CANNOT play NTSC discs on a PAL TV. For example, if you live in the USA you will be able to play PAL region 2 discs from Europe on your US NTSC TV, BUT if you live in Europe you will not be able to watch American NTSC discs on your PAL TV.
