DVD Features
Faroudja DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing)
Invented and patented by Faroudja, Directional Correlational De interlacing (DCDi), virtually alleviates jagged oblique lines that appear when standard interlaced video is viewed on progressive scan displays, enabling the reproduction of beautiful, natural-looking moving images.
Progressive Scanning (NTSC/PAL)
Progressive scanning provides maximum resolution for a smoother, filmlike image when viewed on a high definition TV or large screen. The DVD-C950 offers progressive scanning of both NTSC and PAL signals.
DCDi Progressive Scanning
DCDi circuitry detects the type of picture sources and selects optimal processing accordingly, eliminating jagged edges that generally appear in moving images when interlaced video is converted to progressive. 3:2 pull-down is automatically applied when necessary.
HDMI Interface with Indicator
HDMI, an advanced version of DVI (Digital Video Interface), provides superb video quality, much better than a component connection. It provides 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i digital video output capability. The DVD-C950 will play almost any type of formats you are likely to have: Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio/Video, Super Video CD, Video CD, Picture CD, Audio CD, MP3, JPEG, DivX and WMA, as well as discs with DVD+RW/+R (Video/VR format), DVD-R/-RW (Video format), CD-R/RW.
Audio System
DTS Digital Out
DVD player equipped with dts surround optical-digital and coaxial-digital output.
Dolby Digital
The most popular 5.1-channel home theater sound system. An improvement over Dolby Pro-Logic in that it offers: 1) Full frequency response in all channels (3Hz — 20kHz), 2) discrete surround channels, and 3) a separate track for bass only, called the Low Frequency Effects channel.
Dolby Pro Logic II
Improved version of Dolby Pro-Logic for music and movies. With a more intelligent matrix decoder, it is suitable for both stereo and surround-encoded sources. It offers “bass management” as well as the option of incorporating “width,” “dimension” and “panorama” controls.
DTS Digital Surround
The basic DTS 5.1 channel sound format. Uses a higher data rate than Dolby Digital.
Disc Formats
DivX Playback
DivX is the video compression codec developed by DivX Networks and based on the MPEG-4 compression format. Its balance of high video quality and low bit rate has made it very popular and quickly established it as the best home video format thus far. The ability to play it on newer DVD models continues to add to its popularity as DivX Networks advances its support to many new household products. This compression technology has the potential for expanding the ways we view video media in much the way MP3 has given us many new ways to listen to music.
DVD-Audio / Super Audio CD Ready
DVD-Audio is an extension of the highly popular DVD format, distinguished by its capability to deliver high quality multi-channel audio capability previously unavailable in traditional packaged audio media.
Super Audio CD
DVD Players that support Super Audio CD use a technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a digital signal that can be stored on a disc. Compared to the traditional PCM method (the technology used for CD), DSD offers a much higher resolution by following more closely the original waveform of music. With a frequency response of over 100kHz and a dynamic range over 120dB across the audible frequency range – some 64 times higher resolution then CD - Super Audio CD offers music reproduction that reveals details you just can’t hear on a normal CD.
Video CD
DVD Players equipped with Video CD capabilities will be able to play video and sound media that has been compressed together using the MPEG 1 standard, and recorded onto a CD disc.
CD Digital Video
DVD Players equipped with CD Digital Video capabilities will be able to play video and sound media that has been compressed together and recorded onto a CD disc.
Output Terminals
HDMI
High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is the first and only digital interface to combine uncompressed high-definition video, multi-channel audio and intelligent format and command data in a single digital interface. HDMI switching, providing the most advanced method of delivering high quality video signals to a home theater system to enable the reproduction of DVD and satellite TV sources with HD quality. Compatible with the HDMI Ver. 1.1 format, it can also decode digital audio signals from sources such as DVDAudio, CD, Dolby Digital and DTS.
High Definition Multimedia Interface
HDMI is a new standard digital connection between A/V devices, such as a set-top box, DVD player or A/V receiver, and a digital television. HDMI offers exceptional video and audio quality with a single quick-disconnect connector. It supports multi-channel digital audio transmissions and component video color spacing for true rendering of HD video.
We carry a full line of high-performance HDMI cables. See them here...

Product Review:
We're using DVDs from several DVD regions, including Japan, Europe and US. I knew that multi-systems were available and I researched your company's reputation. I'm very pleased with the Yamaha C950 Zone Free DVD player and purchased this product over other brands because it had the full package - the 5-CD changer and its up convert. I would recommend this product for its full package."

Product Review:
Friends of mine recommended that I buy a Region Free DVD player, since I like watching movies like the Six Million Dollar Man that can't be found in the U.S. I've watched a few Region 4 DVDs on the Yamaha Region Free S657 DVD player which was easy to use and set up."
